The Art of Social Media
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The theme of the book is providing great step by step tips for improving one’s social media and business social media. The book is informative and funny all at once.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
This book will really help an entrepreneur have successful social media. There are tips on how to set up your biography, cover, and what material should be posted and how often. Using this book as an entrepreneur will help you keep followers interested and have an interesting Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and other websites.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
The exercise would be to actually create a Facebook or Twitter for our business idea.Through the Facebook, we can learn how to network through social media and how to properly keep other interested in our business ideas.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
I’m not very familiar with many social networks so I had many “aha” moments. I learned what a Vanity URL is and how convenient it is to have, what an RSS feed is, how important the content of a post is. I had no idea i’d actually learn the technology part of social media which is broken down and made easy to understand. I also never noticed the content of what people post has a huge impact in social media and networking. I appreciated him mentioning that if one’s posts does not piss others off, the post isn’t good enough.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. I actually modified my Facebook as I was reading the book.
Hi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteWow, I love that you loved the book so much. The book I read was amazing as well and beneficial in so many ways. I do believe having a successful social media can be the start of any entrepreneurial business because the world is so focused on the internet nowadays. I also really like the exercise you chose that is to have the class create a Facebook. Great post!
Hi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you used this book to modify your Facebook! It must be a great book if you took its advice immediately. Now I want to read it to see what I can improve upon. I never would have thought the author would say if the post didn't piss others off, then it wasn't good enough. I guess it is true though! I like your exercise. I think it would benefit many people. As people continue to become more dependent on social media, the more classes I think students should have so we can figure out the best way to navigate it and keep up with trends, create trends and et cetera.
Hey Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that your book resonated so much with you! I liked the idea of creating a social media page for our idea because it makes it feel legitimate. It reminds me of one of my other classes "Effective Career Management" where we had to make a LinkedIn for ourselves. It made me feel more confident about myself in the business world, and this class connected with it well because we had to list our competencies and the things that made us unique, which comes into play in the biography portion.
Hi Nicole.
ReplyDeleteIt's so great that this was not just an assignment for you; it's clear that this book really impacted you! That's really cool that he made sure to mention that upsetting people is a part of posting; it gives me the courage to be controversial if I feel strongly about something even if I'm afraid that not everyone might agree or feel the same way about the topic as I do. Very nice reflection, thanks for sharing!
