My Entrepreneurship Story -3A

Lemons and Nicole = Good money

During my childhood, from fourth grade to about sixth grade, I spent my summers making lemonade. My dad made me a little stand with a small table and two beach umbrellas. My mom bought me lemons, sugar, two gallons of water, and plastic cups . I made two pitchers of lemonade and went outside from 11 a.m to 1 p.m then back out again at 3 p.m to 5 p.m once a week. I sold the lemonade for 75 cents. I remember people giving me a dollar and letting me keep the change, so I made about 10 dollars a week. My mom kept the receipt and deducted the lemons, waters and cups from my $10. I ended up profiting about $6. I did this for almost two summers. I realized that I was making an extra 25 cents when I priced the lemonade for 75 cents. I told my dad I wanted to up the price to $1.50 and hope to make two dollars for each cup. He said no one would that much for a lemonade. As a stubborn child I decided to take the risk and charge $1.50 knowing people might not want to pay that much. I told my mom I needed more cups but I wanted cheaper ones. I went to a near by dollar store and got cups at a much cheaper price. The next day I brought out my stand, set up my umbrellas, and made my lemonade. This time I wrote on all the cups "Nicole's Lemonade." I definitely remember not having as many customers but still enough to make more than $10. I was so happy and excited because I sold lemonade for $1.50 and people were willing to pay for it! I sold lemonade almost every day and made a lot of money for a little kid. I ended up saving my money and buying roller skates and candy.
I was definitely an entrepreneur as a kid. I took risks, I invested my time making and selling lemonade instead of playing with friends, and I was happy about it. I was not only happy about the money but happy with the fact that people bought my idea and enjoyed it!

I enrolled into ENT3003 not only because it was a requirement but because I found an interest in entrepreneurship when I watched the movie Syrup. I'm hoping to have a different mindset and be more open minded by the end of this class. I'd like to grow and have a clear knowledge of entrepreneurship.

I have 20 bug problems, but a mosquito isn't one! -2A

Bug List

1. Running Stop signs in Butler Plaza.
Why this exists? A 4-way stop sign was recently put in place at the entrance near Chilis and Sprint. Before the 4-way stop signs were there, incoming traffic did not stop and had the right of way. Drivers are accustomed to previous traffic signals.

2. Dishes put away while wet at work.
Why this exists? Associates would rather rush to clock out than wait ten minutes for the dishes to properly dry on the drying rack.

3. Bugs entering my home.
Why this exists? Pest control is not part of the lease and the foundation of my home has cracks that bugs may get into.

4. Pitbulls being considered an aggressive breed.
Why this exists?  A stigma has been created due to the massive amount of dog fighting involving this breed.

5. Getting the wrong food at a fast food drive thru.
Why this exists?  Orders are being rushed out to customers because fast food drive thru's are put on a time limit to promptly get cars through the drive thru. Employees rush orders out so they don't exceed their time limit, rather than taking a couple extra seconds to make sure the orders are correct.

6. Not having other options besides Cox for cable and GRU for utilities in Gainesville.
Why this exists?  These companies are monopolies so there are no competitors to compete prices.

7. Poorly done tattoos.
Why this exists?  Lack of research before getting a tattoo. Art is quality over quantity and some people are more concerned with the price rather than the permanent quality of work.

8. When speaking to someone and they do not give me their full attention in a conversation.
Why this exists? There may be other distractions around to focus on, such as noise, cell phones, or other people.

9.  Commercials on Hulu.
Why this exists? TV providers need advertisements to make money and want people to pay that extra $5 a month to watch Hulu without commercials.

10.  Not enough cashiers at Walmart in Butler plaza at night.
Why this exists? Perhaps there are not enough cashiers ringing out customers because the majority of employees are stocking merchandise.

11. Ordering bathing suits online and not receiving the appropriate size.
Why this exists? Typically companies have sizes XS,S,M,L,XL instead of measurements similar to bra sizes. Companies may not want to do that because they would have to create more options for production which could cost more to produce.

12. Scraping on a chalk board.
Why this exists? The noise makes me bite my teeth down, and hurt my ears. The noise makes ears very sensitive perhaps it is because of the high frequency range.

13. The loud noise my living room ceiling fan makes when on and the fan is too high to reach without a ladder.
Why this exists? The fan cannot be reached unless a large ladder is used which may be the reason why there hasn't been maintenance done on the fans.

14. Jamming my toe into the corner of the bed frame.
Why this exists? Toes, feet, and fingertips have a lot of nerve endings that give our nervous system feedback. so hitting your toe against the corner of the bed frame causes the instant pain sensation to go the our central nervous system. If bed frames had some sort of cushion on the corners the pain could be reduced.

15. When vape liquid spills out of the tank.
Why this exists? Over filling an RDA causes liquid to spill out of the air ways. Many tanks have small defaults that spill through the air ways.

16. Not arriving to hair appointments on time.
Why this exists? It is assumed that because a service is being provided, accommodations could be made as an exception, but appointments are made back to back. Being 15 minutes late causes the appointment to run over the next appointment which is unfair for the guests that arrives on time.

17. When customers say their orders by giving their entree items followed by their side at Panda Express.
Why this exists? The computer system only allows associates to input sides before entrees and appetizers/drinks last. This causes a huge confusion because at other restaurants customers order their drinks and/or appetizers, entrees then the sides.

18. Being left handed and writing in a three ring binder.
Why this exists? Only 10% of the population is left handed. Many products are made for the majority of the population which is right handed.

19. Seeing others trying to make left turns on the corner of 6th and University ave. (NO LEFT TURNS ARE ALLOWED)
Why this exists? There are no warnings approaching the intersection and the sign next to the stop light is small and not very visible. Google maps also direct you to make a left turn even though it is not permitted. The city should get into contact with Google to update their directions.

20. The lack of phone service Sprint provides in Gainesville, FL.
Why this exists? There are no Sprint towers in or near Gainesville so the service is lacking.

Creating this list was actually quite difficult for me. I found it hard for two reasons. First, it was easy figuring out all the things that bugged me, but trying to understand why these bugs existed really made me feel like the reason I believed it existed wasn't truly the reason for it's existence. I felt it was very opinionated. Second, I caught myself wanting to say "the reason why this exists is because the human race was created" though it is not. Such small things bother me and I continue on about my day and forget until the bug re appears. So does this truly bug me? Does this all bug me enough to create a movement? Half the time the answer is, no. The only thing that truly has bugged me for a long time is when Glenn died in The Walking Dead, but it created a great plot twist!
